HILLSBORO - A Peebles man was one of two people who allegedly stole a purse in addition to items from mailboxes and later tried to use checks and a credit card from the purse have been arrested.
The Hillsboro Police Department said it received a call at 7:22 a.m. Thursday from the Speedway Gas Station on North High Street reporting the theft of a purse. Through the course of an ensuing investigation, descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle were obtained and they were later located with the vehicle.
The suspects were identified as Eric Wayne Royster, 26, of Peebles, and Regina I. Braden, 24, of Mount Orab.
As the investigation continued, the suspects were found to be in possession of items stolen from the purse, as well as mail stolen from mailboxes. It was also determined that personal checks from the stolen purse had been forged and the suspects had attempted to cash the checks at a local bank. The suspects had also used a credit card from the stolen purse to make other purchases, the police department said.
Both suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Highland County Justice Center. Royster was charged with theft, tampering with evidence and complicity to forgery. Braden was charged with complicity to theft, misuse of a credit card and forgery.
