Heart Walk a success
MEIGS TOWNSHIP - The Lois Nichols Memorial Heart Walk, held in May, raised $1,380 for the Christ Hospital Foundation. Nichols, who worked for the Adams County Board of Elections, died of a massive heart attack in May of 2003.

Humphrey finalist in National American Miss Ohio Pageant
Kayleigh Anne Humphrey, daughter of Larry and Sue Humphrey of Peebles, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Ohio Pageant to be held June 30-July 1 at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus.

Adams County's Doug White named to Ohio Ag Council Hall of Fame
Four Ohioans - including a resident of Adams County - who have committed their lives to working in, promoting and advocating for Ohio's farm and agribusiness community will be honored Friday, Aug. 2, by the Ohio Agricultural Council (OAC), when they are inducted into the Ohio Agricultural Hall of Fame.

Cross leads full honors for Sen. Lautenberg
Staff Sgt. Benjamin C. Cross, son of Judy and Tom Cross of Winchester, was charged with providing the late Senator Frank Lautenberg, (D) New Jersey, with a full honors military funeral in the pouring rain last Friday at Arlington Cemetery.

"This is one of the oddest, one of the saddest cases I've ever defended," Public Defender Richard Campbell said Monday in a hearing for the sentencing of the father of 20-month-old Jalynn Cox. The toddler died in December, 2012 after being put to bed in an upstairs bedroom that became too hot.

Yuma choir conductor returns to his Adams County roots
WEST UNION - Upon receiving a standing ovation at the centuries old West Union Presbyterian Church for an outstanding performance, tears flowed from the 42 members of the Cibola High School Choir from Yuma, Ariz. as their conductor, Brandon Stroup, formerly of Peebles, announced that he would be moving to the Columbus, Ohio area.

A local quilt hobbyist has turned her passion for quilts into a business to benefit not only herself, but other local quilters as well. Ann Taylor has invested in a computerized long-arm quilting machine that she said will decrease the time it takes to put quilting stitches on pieced quilts.

Preachers group welcomes community
Preachers Against Drugs and Alcohol, a group that has been active in the county since June of 2006 in regards to moral issues that affect the citizens of Adams County, has expanded its scope. Highland Co. man speaks out after son's body found
The father of a one-year-old child found buried on Friday in a makeshift grave just outside Hillsboro said Sunday he has been frantically trying for months to locate his children after they disappeared with their mother and her boyfriend late last year.
