Local athletes well represented on All-District soccer squads
The Southeast Ohio All-District soccer teams for 2102 have been announced and the three Adams County high schools that field soccer teams are well represented in the post-season honors. No less than 27 county soccer players were named to the 2012 All-District squads.
On the Division III boys team, four county athletes were named to the First Team: forward Karson Kendall of North Adams, sweeper Alex Creamer of West Union, and the dynamic duo of striker Jonathan Pryor and forward Stone Crothers from the District Champion Peebles Indians. On the Second Team, Peebles was represented by three more players: sweeper Clay Keidel, midfielder Caleb Denzik, and goalie Tyler Gray. Also garnering Second Team honors were North Adams goalie Will Leasure and West Union forward Dodge Estle.
Honorable Mention honors in Division III went to forwards Blake Anderson and Corey Jodrey of North Adams, stoppers Anthony Seaman and Cody Hemming from Peebles, and defender Tim Poynter and goalie Devin Highlander from West Union.
In Division III girls soccer, there were three countians who were named to the All-District First Team: fullback Jessica Stout of North Adams, sweeper Ashley Toller of Peebles, and sweeper Kelsey Neu of West Union.
Making the Division III Second Team were: goalie/forward Ashley Taylor from North Adams, striker Taylor Brown of Peebles, and goalie Paige Welch from West Union.
Honorable Mention recognition went to : forward Ashley Staten of North Adams, midfielder Cati Butler of North Adams, midfielder Kayleigh Gross of Peebles, stopper Liz Fernandez of Peebles, fullback Michelle Smith of West Union, and fullback CeCe Howard of West Union.
The Southeast District Coaches Association also named Peebles' Gus Denzik as the Division III Boys Coach of the Year and nominated West Union girls coach Joe Kramer for the OSCCA Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award. The West Union girls team was also nominated for the OSCCA Team Sportsmanship Award.
The girls teams from North Adams and Peebles also received the Coaches Association Team Academic Award for having at least a 3.0 GPA on a scale of 4.0. Girls squads from North Adams, Peebles, and West Union were also honored with Team Sportsmanship Awards for receiving no red cards through the entire 2012 season. In addition, the boys teams from North Adams and West Union were recognized for getting no red cards for the entire season.
The OSCCA also honored the district's student/athletes who are carrying at least a 3.7 GPA with the Southeast District All_Ohio Academic Awards. Those recognized for their academic achievements were: Jessica Stout of North Adams, and Taylor Brown, Liz Fernandez, Makala Haines, Anthony Seaman, and Jack Chalker from Peebles.
A number of local players also participated in the Coaches Association 2012 District All-Star game held on Nov. 4 at Jackson High School. In the girls game, it was Jessica Stout and Ashley Taylor of North Adams playing for the East Team, while Ashley Toller and Taylor Brown of Peebles plus Kelsey Neu of West Union suited up for the West Team.
In the boys game, and playing for the West squad, were Jonathan Pryor and Stone Crothers of Peebles, Karson Kendall of North Adams, and Devin Highlander of West Union. The West Team was coached by Peebles' Gus Denzik. Fittingly after their remarkable seasons, Pryor and Crothers both scored goals in the All-Star game, which ended in a 5-5 tie.
