| Kids' Night at Brushcreek produces some high quality racing
|
A sunny, warm day turned into a night full of racing action and fun at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex. Saturday was "Kids Night" presented by Mt. Hope Bible Camp. It was a full night of fun and games for the kids coordinated by the staff from the Mt. Hope Bible Camp. The racing action also featured a special class, the Southern Ohio Lightning Mini-Sprints which made its first of two scheduled races at BMC in 2013. The racing action heated up as the sun went down. | Just being random again
|
Some days it is just tough to write, tough to find a specific topic, tough to find words that will make any sense. Today is one of those days when there is just not a single topic jumping out at me, at least not one that might not be too controversial for this page. So as I was driving up here this morning, I decided to go the "random" route and just go with whatever popped into my mind as I sit down to type. I know, that is a scary thought itself, but here we go. Wednesday, June 12, 2013 |

| Lady Devils hold their annual summer basketball camp

| Opening night in 'A' baseball-Manchester 21 Peebles 11
|
It was pretty obvious on Monday night in Manchester that many of the players on the two baseball teams that took the field were more than a little rusty. There were players who had been off the field since the recent high school seasons concluded and others who had not seen action since last summer or fall. It all combined to produce an entertaining, albeit a bit sloppy, 21-11 win for the Manchester Greyhounds over the visiting Peebles Indians in the first "A" league game of the summer for both squads. | Cross does some fishing with the boss |
Fishing is one of those things that makes all men (and women) equal. From a fish's perspective it doesn't care who you are or what you do. That is why, regardless of our station in life, we are able to come together, under a common bond, and pursue a worthy opponent with respect and utter gratefulness should we succeed in our endeavors. Fishing equalizes all and forges common bond between those who share in its passions. Wednesday, June 05, 2013 |

As North Adams boys head coach Nathan Copas addressed his campers at the end of the camp's final day, he emphasized to them the importance of "practicing perfect." | West Union 'D' girls win another thriller |
There seems to be a pattern forming for the girls on the West Union "D" League softball squad. That pattern involves nail-biting close game mixed in with some extra innings. That was again the case last Thursday night as the little Lady Dragons played host to Mowrystown. Wednesday, June 05, 2013 |

| Saturday night rain causes changes in Brushcreeek Racing schedule
|
By Steven Partin
(Peebles, OH) Things looked promising on Saturday the sun shone all day at the Brushcreek Motorsports Complex as the rain stayed over in the greater Cincinnati area. The cars started to roll in the gates and so did the dark clouds. The Crazy Compacts hit the track for hot laps and the rain hit. The skies opened up and poured on the BMC grounds. The rains caused a cancellation for the night and postponed Mt. Hope Bible Camp "Kids Night" to this Saturday, June 8. June 8 was originally scheduled to be Fan Appreciation Night/$10 Car Load night but due to the rescheduling of Kids Night, Fan Appreciation Night has been moved to Saturday June 15 to join Walk the Track Night.

| Tighten that bow tie!
|
One of the drawbacks to being a writer for a weekly paper is that those darn daily writers can beat me to the punch on all the good ideas. My buddy Zack Klemme at the Ledger-Independent got to the West Union girls basketball hiring first and as I am sorting out ideas over the weekend for this column, I pick up Sunday's Enquirer and see that the great columnist Paul Daugherty has already written about the wonderful antics of the president of "The" Ohio State University. Well, with my apologies to Mr. Daugherty, who by the way owns a cabin somewhere here in the county, I can't pass up the OSU story Wednesday, June 05, 2013 |

| Devils drop finale to Lynchburg, finish in second place tie in SHAC
|
With at least a tie for second place in the big school division of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference already wrapped up, the North Adams Green Devils baseball squad looked to take that trophy outright on May 22 when they played host to the team that was just one game behind them in the standings, the Lynchburg Mustangs. After a slow start, the Mustangs came on strong late in the year to put themselves in the position of potentially grabbing a share of second place and that is exactly what they did in Seaman last week as they jumped out early and posted a 7-2 win over the Green Devils. | Beauty of the box score
|
I grew up studying them more than I ever studied anything in school. A wealth of information right at my fingertips, right there in the morning newspaper. There is nothing like browsing through a baseball box score. To this day, I believe I learned as much about the game from scanning the box scores as I did from actually watching the games.
