Summer Rec Program keeps ‘em hopping

For the 42nd year the Adams County Juvenile Court hosted the annual Summer Recreation Program from June 16 to 27, offering summer activities for almost 300 local children, ages 8 to 16 years, at the Adams County Fairgrounds. Sponsored by Judge Brett Spencer and the county probation department, the program was designed to provide a means of constructive entertainment for youth living in the county.“Our goal is to give kids in the area something fun to do during the summer in a positive environment,” co-director Mike Parker said, “It’s basically a preventative program organized by the court that is designed to keep them out of trouble now and potentially in the future.”


Freedom Fest lights the sky

Mantell leaving Manchester football

Manchester High School will soon begin the search for a new varsity head football coach with the announcement on Monday of the resignation of Jason Mantell, who had been the head coach for the past three years and in 2013 guided the team to a 6-4 mark, their first winning record since 1939.“I have accepted an Assistant Principal position at Athens High School,” Mantell said on Monday. “It was a difficult decision but ultimately the best one for my family.”...

Manchester house destroyed in fire

Flames erupted from a house at the intersection of Fourth and Washington streets in Manchester, in the early morning hours of July 2.The Manchester Fire Department responded at 3 a.m. to find the 144 year-old structure fully engulfed.
