The Adams County Historical Society will be hosting the seventh annual Cowboy Copas Memorial Concert at the Community Center in Blue Creek on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. This year’s performers will include the John Simon Band, Rosie Young, the Randy Copas Band and Katie Grace Jonas.

Adams County music star Lloyd Estel Copas (Cowboy Copas) was born in Moon Hollow in Jefferson Township on July 15, 1913. He appeared on WLW and WKRC in Cincinnati and in 1943 achieved national fame when he replaced Eddy Arnold in the Pee Wee King Band.

He became a regular performer on the Grand Ole Opry in 1946. His first record “Filipino Baby” was released in 1944 and reached number four on the country music charts. His better known recordings include “Signed, Sealed and Delivered”, “Candy Kisses” and “Alabam.” Cowboy Copas died in a tragic plane crash on March 5, 1963 and this annual concert plays tribute to the man and his music.

Tickets for the Aug. 29 concert may be purchased at the door or at the Blue Creek General Store. Refreshments will be sold, along with a cake auction. Everyone is welcome.
