Congratulations to the winners of our Back to School Drawings at the Adams County Public Library. At the Manchester Library, four backpacks loaded with school supplies were won by Ashley Francis, Dakota Blevins, Thomas Ailshire, and Karlee Collins. At the North Adams Library, two backpacks loaded with school supplies were won by Katelynn Boerger and Mason Lason, who also selected some books.

At the Peebles Library, Logan McClain won the drawing for a scientific calculator, Lorene Miller won a study lamp, Lydia Klump won a school-supply case, Savannah MacDowell won an alarm clock, Cody Tolle won a backpack, and Karleigh Tabor won a backpack. Thanks to the many kids who borrowed a book and took home free school supplies from the library this August, to Peebles Police Chief Rob Music and ACSO Mark Brewer for sharing about Back-to-School Safety, and to the Peebles Magazine Club for supporting the prize giveaways at the Peebles Library.

School is back in session. Get a head start on homework and reading assignments by visiting your local library branch, and signing up for a library card. A parent or legal guardian must be present for children under 18 to receive their own library card. Children under 18 are never charged overdue fines, and signing up for a library card is free. Use public computers to work on homework assignments and print out documents, and ask a librarian to help you find the books you need to complete assignments. Borrow library books and audio books to earn Accelerated Reader points. The Online Catalog now supports searching and browsing for books by AR reading level. If you have any questions, ask a librarian because we’re glad to help.

Teen Art Class returns to the West Union Library every other Thursday at 10:30 a.m., starting Sept. 10. Artist and library employee Donelle Lacy will lead teens ages 10 through 16 in a hands-on art project, and teach basic drawing skills and art history. Kids are encouraged to bring sketchpads, pencils, and erasers. Supplies for special projects will be provided.

The Friends of the North Adams Library are holding a drawing for a handmade quilt, sewn and donated by Rita Lucas. The quilt is 42 by 63 inches, and is currently on display at the North Adams Library. The Friends of the North Adams Friends plan to hold a drawing for the quilt to support library programs. Pick up one entry ticket for a $1 donation, or six entry tickets for a $5 donation, from any Friends member, or at the First State Bank in Winchester or Seaman.

The Friends of the North Adams Library will host a booth at the Winchester Bicentennial Festival and Seaman Fall Festival as well. The drawing for the quilt will be held on Sept. 26 at the close of the Seaman Fall Festival. All funds raised will benefit the Friends of the North Adams Library, who use the funds to support library programs and events, and to purchase improvements for the library’s public facilities.

All Adams County Public Library locations are open from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Visit us online at adamscolibrary.org, or follow the Adams County Public Library on Facebook.
