Within the past two years, the online course offerings for West Union High School have increased. There are several positive aspects of having the online courses available at West Union High School which is facilitated by Ms. Tess Holloway.

Advance Academics provides students with the option of taking a variety of subjects in an online format. Carry Hayslip, a junior at WUHS, enjoys his online class about social problems in world culture. He enjoys the online format because he thinks “it is interesting to learn the lessons on [his] own” and he also said that he finds reassurance in the fact that there is always an online teacher available to chat with, just in case the students struggle with understanding.

Senior Ashley Hackworth likes her online classes because they provide a more flexible schedule for her. Once students have successfully completed their enrolled course, students have the option of taking more courses. The subject matter is rigorous and it provides a more well-rounded view of the subject. The online format provides high school students with the opportunity to experience courses that will reflect what they can expect from online college courses. It also provides students with the opportunity to learn independently at their own pace.

The online courses also provide an alternative option for students that are lacking credits for graduation. Because the students can take multiple courses at once, they have the opportunity to make up necessary courses to get them back on track for graduation. Students can also take elective courses that are not normally provided at WUHS.
