Thanks to grant funds, Adams County recently purchased five new police cruisers to support the operations of the Sheriff’s Department. The Board of Commissioners, in cooperation with Sheriff Kimmy Rogers, applied for and were awarded a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA-RD) in the amount of $20,000. The remaining cost of the vehicles was financed through USDA with a low interest loan. The overall cost of the vehicles was $120,000.
“The financial resources of our Sheriff’s Department are always tight. The purchase of these vehicles is necessary to maintain critical emergency services to everyone in Adams County. We appreciate USDA and Larry Heller, Clerk of Courts, assisting in the acquisition of these cars. Our deputies work night and day to keep our citizens safe and these new patrol cars will greatly assist them in their duties,” said the Board of Commissioners in a joint statement.
In addition to the USDA-RD grant, funding was also provided by the county general fund and by the Adams County Clerk of Courts. Clerk Heller used money from the county’s certificate of title fund to supplement the funding.
“It is a privilege that my office can help the county purchase patrol cars for the Sheriff’s Office,” said Heller. “Knowing that new cars will continue to assist our deputies in their everyday duties, allowing them to protect and serve the citizens of Adams County is very important to me. The money for the new patrol cars came from additional funds within the Title Department.”
“The Adams County Title Office is completely funded by the vehicle title sales in our county. Any additional funds left over after the expenses for the operation of the Title Office can be used to assist our county’s general fund.”
The Sheriff’s Department responds to thousands of calls each year and serves more than 28,000 people in Adams County. These new vehicles will ensure that Adams County deputies can respond to emergencies and continue to do their job in a professional manner.
