The Ohio District 9 Ag and Urban Soil CDE was held at Tranquility on Oct. 8. The Adams County Schools hosted the CDE contest and the local FFA students spent several weeks studying and preparing for soils. They spent time inside and outside of class learning about Urban and Rural soils.
Mr. John Newman, FFA instructor, held a chapter competition to determine the 12 students who would compete in the contest. The students that competed in the rural contest were Mary Lechner, Karlie Harper, Billy Brannock, Jarrett Long, and Jacob Jones. The students that competed for Urban were Josie McDowell, Hunter Conley, Nathan Hayslip, Seth Daulton, and Kyle Corrill.
There were a total of 21 different schools at the competition. Mary Lechner ranked 31st overall with a score of 649. Karlie Harper ranked 37th overall with a score of 634. Jarrett Long was 50th overall with a score of 600. Billy Brannock ranked 56th overall and scored a 587. Jacob Jones ranked 88th overall with a score of 485. Josie McDowell ranked 13th overall with a score of 771. Hunter Conley ranked 20th overall with a score of 747. Nathan Hayslip ranked 31st overall with a score of 682. Seth Daulton ranked 34th overall with a score of 662 and Kyle Corrill ranked 53rd overall with a score of 559.
Ohio Valley Vocational ranked 10th overall with a score of 1,883 in the Ohio District 9 Ag Soils CDE. They were ranked sixth with a score of 2,200 in the Ohio FFA District 9 Urban Soils CDE.
