Four contestants will be competing for the title of “2015 Adams County Junior Fair Queen.” These contestants will ride in the parade on Sunday afternoon, July 12, beginning at 5 p.m. Final interviews, judging, and the announcement of the queen and her court will take place during the Fair’s Opening Ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. that evening. The contestants will be interviewed by Don Bowles of C103 Radio. Contestants include Kylee Jo Applegate, Maria Fox, Karlie Harper, and McKayla Smith.

Kylee Jo Applegate, 17, will be a senior this fall in Farm Business Management at the Ohio Valley Career and Technical Center. She competes in several sports, including golf and softball, at North Adams High School. Kylee currently serves as treasurer of the Adams County Junior Fair Board and is a nine-year member of the Nitty Gritty 4-H Club. She is also a member of the Ohio Valley Chapter of FFA. Kylee is an active member of the National Honor Society and of BETA. She is the daughter of Gary and Lisa Jo Applegate of West Union.

Maria Fox, 17, will be a sophomore at West Union High School this fall. She is a member of the Fantastic 4-H’ers and is also an active member of West Union FFA. Through FFA she has participated in equine and forestry judging. Maria is a member of the West Union Jr/Sr High School Band and Cross Country Team. She is the daughter of Brian and Sharon Miley of West Union.

Karlie Harper, 17, will be a senior at the Ohio Valley Career and Technical Center this fall. She is a member of the Ohio Valley FFA and the Lawshe Shadow Riders 4-H Club. She has represented Adams County 4-H in the State Fair Junior Horse Show, in Ohio State Fair non-livestock project judging, and in the Ohio 4-H State Horse Bowl, Hippology, and Horse Judging contests. She is a former member of the Adams County Junior Fair Board and is member of the Sandy Springs Methodist Church. Karlie is the daughter of Brent and Mary Harper of Stout.

McKayla Smith, 17, will be a senior at Manchester High School this fall. She has been a member of the Manchester FFA for two years and has received her Greenhand and Chapter degrees. She was also a 4-H member for four years. McKayla is actively involved with National Honor Society, BETA, band, choir, color guard, cheerleading, basketball, volleyball, and track, and takes part in her high school musicals. She attends Pine Top Church with her family. McKayla is the daughter of Amanda and Will Smith of Manchester.

Preliminary interviews were completed on Friday, June 26. As noted, final interviews will be conducted by Don Bowles, C103, on the air during Opening Ceremonies of the 124th Adams County Fair on Sunday, July 12, in front of the main grandstand at approximately 6:30 p.m. Each candidate will be interviewed by Bowles and asked a final question. Judges will then confer, and the Queen and her court will be announced. Fair royalty will be actively involved in many of the Fair’s events and activities throughout the week, and they will represent the Fair at area festivals and events throughout the coming year.

A committee of Junior Fair Board members and adult coordinators is responsible for the 2015 Adams County Junior Fair Queen Contest. Committee members include Emily Bauman, Devon Polley, and Katie Setty. Former Adams County Fair queens Ashley Clark, Whitney Siders Shupert, and Emilee Swayne serve as adult coordinators for this year’s Contest.
