With the closure of State Route 125 near Hazelbaker Road for bridge construction, Randalls Run Road has been seeing heavy traffic. The rain on Friday, July 18, brought this heavier traffic to a standstill as two cars collided in a curve.

Louis Spires, 41, of West Union was heading northbound on Randall’s Run Road, when he lost control of his green, 2001 Chevrolet Silverado in a downhill curve. At the bottom of the hill, Betty Briggs, 55, of Blue Creek was sitting in the driver’s seat of her stalled blue 2004 Ford Escape with her mother, Norma Briggs, 86, of Blue Creek in the passenger side seat. The Silverado proceeded to overturn and roll into the Escape before coming to a stop.

The West Union Fire Department, West Union Life Squad, the Adams County Sheriff, and Ohio State Trooper Stump responded to the scene of the accident and closed the road. Spires and Norma Briggs were transported by ambulances to Adams County Regional Medical Center for non-incapacitating injuries.

Eventually the section of Randalls Run Road was opened to a single lane of traffic until the vehicles could be towed from the location, opening the roadway completely.
