A hit and run occurred on Steam Furnace Road in the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 16.


Richard Helton, 24, of Cincinnati, was driving his 1995, black Ford Probe northbound on Steam Furnace Road at 12:29 a.m., when he traveled across the centerline near Hoop Road and struck a black 2012 Dodge Durango driven by Sabrina Osman, 37, with Ashley Osman, 21, both of Blue Creek, as a passenger.


Helton continue driving his damaged vehicle for three miles before abandoning it, attempting to walk to a house in Peebles. He was picked up by Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Estep and brought to the scene of the collision.


No injuries were reported, and all those involved in the accident refused transportation by ambulance.


Helton is facing charges of driving left of center, OVI, not wearing a seatbelt, and leaving the scene of an accident.
