After opening their 2014 fall season with three consecutive defeats, Coach Deb McClanahan and the West Union Lady Dragons finally got on the winning track last Thursday (Aug. 28) as they easily handled the visiting Lynchburg Clay Lady Mustangs in straight sets, 25-17, 25-19,and 25-16.


The Lady Dragons were paced by the solid play of Mikayla Akers, who contributed seven kills and two blocks to the winning effort. Senior hitter Taylor Martin added three kills with Kristen Grooms getting two.


The Lady Dragons were back on their home court last night for a Southern Hills Athletic Conference match up with Eastern and will play host to Ripley tomorrow night and then Peebles on Friday night. Both of those matches are SHAC contests.


On Saturday, Sept. 6, West Union will play host to a four-team varsity tournament beginning at 10 a.m. The other three teams participating will be Lucasville Valley, Marietta, and Georgetown.
