Once again, with a dominating performance, the West Union Dragons boys golf team has captured the Southern Hill Athletic Conference tournament championship, running away from the field to win by a whopping 78 strokes. The Dragons also produced the tourney’s individual champion as West Union’s Elijah McCarty outdistanced second place Dylan Phillips of Ripley by six strokes.

The Dragons had a commanding lead going into last Thursday’s final round at Hilltop Golf Course so the team championship was never in doubt, but the individual and All-Conference spots were still up for grabs. McCarty led going into the final round and sewed up the individual title with the day’s best round, medaling with a nine-hole total of 37, two stroke better than Phillips, who shot a 39.

In the final nine, the Dragons also got rounds of 43 from both Tyler Fowler and Jacob Pell, 46 from Craig Horton, and 50 from Eli Fuller.

The North Adams Green Devils will take home the second place trophy and they got fine performances in the final round from Bryant and Noah Lung, who both carded 44’s. The Devils completed the nine holes with a 49 from Colt Shumaker, a 50 from Corey McClellan, and a 51 from Patrick England.

The Manchester Greyhounds finished fourth in the overall team standings and were led in the final round by a score of 44 from Dylan Colvin. The Hounds also got a 46 from Jalen James, a 47 from Logan Hayslip, a 49 from Jase Thatcher, and a 56 from Justin Aldridge.

Peebles also had three golfers on the Hilltop Course for the final round, Joe McElwee (48), Jordan Syroney(67), and Owen Behr (82).

The top 15 finishers will be recognized as All-Conference golfers at the upcoming SHAC Fall Sports Awards. Here are the top 15 with their total scores for four rounds: Elijah McCarty (W. Union, 148), Dylan Phillips (Ripley, 154), Zach Blankenship (Lynchburg, 158), Craig Horton (W. Union, 162), Jordan Johnson (Eastern, 165), Jacob Pell (W. Union, 167), Tyler Fowler (W.
