Well, winter has arrived and I must share that I am not too happy about it. I’m just a little envious of some of our snowbird friends in Florida.

Josh and Erin Edminsten are at the hospital awaiting birth of their triplets. We all pray that everything goes well with the delivery for mom and babies.

Our community is saddened by so many deaths due to heroin overdose. It is an overwhelming issue because it impacts so many families and friends on all socio-economic levels. If you are aware of dealers, you can make an anonymous notification to local law enforcement.

Dayla Porter still needs our prayers as she has been a patient at University of Cincinnati. We have lots of folks who are experiencing illness so remember your neighbors and check on them during this cold weather.

Dorothy Walls was a patient at Adams County Regional Medical Center and was recently moved to Ohio Valley Manor. I had the pleasure of visiting with her and she is just as pleasant and thankful as she was many years ago. She has been a blessing to so many lives and I am sure she would appreciate visitors.

Winchester’s Past (Florence Bryson): I have an envelope that has The Miller House, Winchester, Ohio, on it. I never knew where it was until I was doing research on Johnson Miller. His uncle, Robert A. Miller was born in Brown County in 1832. He married Martha Blair and they had 6 children. In 1880 he came to Winchester and bought the former Bunn Hotel and livery stable. In October of 1886 the Hotel burned down. He rented another building until 1891 when he bought the building that stood on the parking lot next to the Southern Hills Therapy office. He remodeled and enlarged it so it could accommodate 40 guests. The Miller House was the finest hotel in the area. Robert died in1898 and his wife in 1911. At some time the building was made into apartments and their daughter Elizabeth “Lizzie” lived in one of them. She and a brother Wylie ran the Corner Grocery where the Hair Company is now located. Robert, Martha, Lizzie and Wylie are all buried in the Winchester Cemetery.
