The winning ways continued on Monday, Sept. 28 for the North Adams Lady Devils soccer squad as they traveled briskly down Route 32 for a special “Kicks For The Cure” game at Peebles High School. The Lady Indians were North Adams’ guests at the North Adams “Kicks For The Cure” and the Lady Devils returned the favor on Monday night in a non-conference match up between the two county schools.
The contest turned out to be yet another winning night for the red-hot Lady Devils as they improved their mark to 10-1-1 on the year with a 5-0 shutout win over the host Lady Indians, in a game called for darkness with 10 minutes left on the clock.
The scoring began early for North Adams as just over five minutes in Alison Harper got a throw-in and passed to Cati Butler , who returned it to Harper who drove it home for the 1-0 lead. At the 13:41 mark of the first half, the leading goal scored in the Southeast District for Division III girls, North Adam’s Lakyn Hupp, got her 18th of the season with an assist from Harper and the Lady Devils took a 2-0 advantage to the halftime break.
The second half began with North Adams’ Brooklyn Wylie recording her first varsity goal as she took a Harper corner kick out of the air and banged it past the Peebles goalie to make it 3-0. The Lady Devils added a pair of goals from Butler in the next eight minutes to account for the final score of 5-0.
“The girls are working well together and getting better and better,” said North Adams head coach Dave D’Avignon. “We have some tough games left and hopefully will still be peaking at tournament time. Special kudos to Alison Harper in this win. She had a solid game and has always been a good soccer player but has developed into a top line player.”
“If I could convince our AD to give out game balls, she would have gotten one tonight.”
