An old sports adage says that it is difficult to defeat a team three times in one season, but that was the opportunity for Coach Rob Meade and his North Adams JV boys as the traveled to Peebles on Jan. 29 to face the JV Indians for the third time. North Adams had taken both of the earlier meetings and was looking for the season sweep.

It was a late run in the second quarter that carried over to the third that propelled the Devils to the season sweep, as they downed the Indians by a final score of 42-29, to improve to 11-5 on the year.

“I thought the guys played very well again tonight,” said Coach Meade. “Our defensive execution was a key to the win.”

The opening period of the game belonged to the host Indians as they rode a strong offensive period from guard Connor Browning to an 11 – 7 advantage. Down 11-9 in the second quarter, the Devils sent on an 11-0 run to end the half, holding Peebles scoreless in the second stanza, and grabbing a nine-point halftime lead. The second quarter offense for North Adams was led by Jacob Call’s 5 points and a pair of baskets by Colt Shumaker, plus some strong work on the boards by Seth Daulton.

A basket by Daulton opened the third quarter and a later three-pointer by Elijah Young stretched the North Adams lead out to 27-14 and when the third period closed, the Devils were up 35-23.

In the final seven minutes, North Adams only hit one field goal but hit 5 of 8 from the foul line. The Indians got a fourth quarter three-pointer from Bostin Robinson , but it was the visiting Devils who continued their season domination over Peebles, taking the 42-29 win to improve to 11-5.

Coach Meade was very pleased after the game with his team’s balanced scoring attack, which was led by 12 points from Daulton, including a perfect 8 for 8 performance from the foul line. Jacob Call and Elijah Young each scored 9 for the winners, with Colt Shumaker adding 8.

The Indians were paced by 11 points from Connor Browning and 9 from Bostin Robinson.
