It’s January, the trees are without clothes, and the colors that lived outside our homes are now withered and brown. All is at rest, and the dreariness may seem disheartening.

Why not take this respite to recharge and redesign your outdoor space? Planning and dreaming are some of the most exciting things about a project, and January is the perfect and pivotal time to start.

1. Purchasing a garden journal is a great way to track what worked and did not last season, jot down your ideas, and catalog seeds and plants.

2. Gather your garden tools. Do you have everything you need? Get them all clean, organized, sharpened, and oil.

3. You probably are receiving loads of plant and flower magazines this month. Look through them and write down your dream list.

4. Make a flower garden(s) budget – be reasonable and creative to stay within it.

5. Sow some flowers indoors.

6. There are some bulbs you can plant outdoors in January. Do some research and get a jump on things.

7. Read everything you have time to consume and learn how to make this year a “flower fest” at your home.

8. Do you love to repurpose? January is a great time to complete DIY projects, turn unexpected items into garden art, or build that adorable shed.

Winter is a time for reflection; yes, it can be rather gray. See the bareness as a canvas ready for God’s brush strokes. And we get to share his masterpiece by designing how to color our world.
